Shirley’s and Bob’s Quilts
Janis made a matched pair of lap quilts for her Aunt and Uncle.
They were made from the same pattern – Momoyama. Momoyama was a period of Japanese art, 1568–1600, characterized by construction of imposing, elegant castles and small, unadorned teahouses, lavish decorative arts, and bright-colored painting.
Shirley’s Quilt was made using fabrics containing flowers and birds in pastels, while Bob’s was made fabrics containing geometric patterns in strong colors of red and blue. On his quilt there is one patch of a Green Dragon. This is known as the ‘Sweet Spot’ in the Quilt.
